Week of March 11, 2018
Dear Students and Parents,
I hope you had a restful weekend. This coming week we will focus on songs featured in the Passion Play scheduled for March 23, which will be a combination of hymns, spirituals and contemporary gospel Christian music. Younger grades will continue exploring various Spring-themed songs as well as various rhythmic games using percussion instruments such as shakers, tambourines, hand drums and sticks.
At least once this week each class will be singing a version of vocal warm ups approriate for their grade and age; we will also discuss vocal health and breath technique with students in grades 4-8.
Composers featured this week are French composer Claude Debussy- most students are familiar with his well-known Clair de Lune composition and we will introduce more of his orchestral works, as well as a continuation of study on Sergei Prokofiev, composer of the beloved musical story Peter and the Wolf which almost everyone in the schools can sing along to at this point, especially Peter’s theme!
Have a joyus and successful week,
Ms. Alma Micic

Hello Students and Parents,
This week we will be learning new traditional and contemporary sacred songs in preparation for the Passion Play which will take place on March 23 in the Church.
Students in grades 4-8 studying the recorder/block flute will become more proficient playing the whole range of notes on the instruments, including the high D, a note we learned last week in order to be able to play the melody for Beethoven’s Ode to Joy.
Students in grades Prek1 through 3 will be practicing percussion instruments and basic piano skills and exploring keyboard sounds.
Please view the lesson plan here: Week of March 4
