New York State ELA Test Grades 3-8

The week of April 1, 2019 begins the testing for all students in grades 3-8 on the New York State ELA test based on the new Common Core Standards.

Monday April 1, 2019
Music classes as scheduled.
As a reminder -- re-registration is due by April 15th

Tuesday April 2, 2019 
New York State ELA Test Grades 3-8
Grade 5 will be taking the test on computers.
No gym or music classes  for all grades today.

Wednesday April 3, 2019

Week of March 24, 2019

Please note that students in grades 3-8 are required to have recorder flutes ready when in music class, they can be kept in their book bags on in the recorder flute box (with a cover) in the music room.
All students received a recorder flute from the school in September. Recorder flutes should always be cleaned over the weekend using soap and hot water.
Younger grades will be using percussion instruments in class and participating in rhythm call/answer games, and echo games. All students will be learning about different instrument families ( brass, percussion, strings, woodwinds) and we will also be celebrating the birthday of great composer J.S. Bach by creating a melody similar to the style of his compositions by using an app, Doodle for Bach by Google.

Week of March 17


Dear Students and Families,
I hope you had a great weekend.
The coming week brings the start of preparations of the Passion Play, and the music it will feature. The students will be learning some timeless songs about Jesus’ Passion, such as “Were You There”, “Be Not Afriad” and “Gethsemane”.
PreK classes will be using instruments in music class as well as colorful scarves in music and movement routines. We will be learning songs about Spring and play “call and answer” games using percussion instruments.

WEEK OF MARCH 10

Dear Students and Parents,
This week the younger grades will be learning new songs about Spring as well as playing percussion games using percussion instruments: shakers, sticks and tambourines.
The older grades will continue to practice the recorder flute, learn about American composers Duke Ellington and Aaron Copland as well as the history of OPERA and BALLET.
