Week of May 2, 2022

In this Easter season we are honored to celebrate sacraments of initiation as well as sacrament of healing with our students.

Sacraments of Initiation

These sacraments lay the foundation of every Christian life.

Baptism (May 13)

In Baptism we receive new life in Christ. Baptism takes away original sin and gives us a new birth in the Holy Spirit. Its sign is the pouring of water.

Confirmation ( May 25)

Confirmation seals our life of faith in Jesus. Its signs are the laying on of hands on a person’s head, most often by a bishop, and the anointing with oil. Like Baptism, Confirmation is received only once.

Eucharist (May 22)

The Eucharist nourishes our life of faith. Its signs are the bread and wine we receive—the Body and Blood of Christ.

Sacraments of Healing

These sacraments celebrate the healing power of Jesus.

Penance (May 20)

Through Penance we receive God’s forgiveness. Forgiveness requires being sorry for our sins. In Penance we receive Jesus’ healing grace through absolution by the priest. The signs of this sacrament are our confession of sins and the words of absolution.

RELIGION CURRICULUM FOCUS OF THE WEEK:

Stations of the Cross
The Stations of the Cross are a 14-step Catholic devotion that commemorates Jesus Christ's last day on Earth as a man. The 14 devotions, or stations, focus on specific events of His last day, beginning with His condemnation. The stations are commonly used as a mini pilgrimage as the individual moves from station to station. At each station, the individual recalls and meditates on a specific event from Christ's last day. Specific prayers are recited, then the individual moves to the next station until all 14 are complete.

The Corporal Works of Mercy are found in the teachings of Jesus and give us a model for how we should treat all others, as if they were Christ in disguise. They "are charitable actions by which we help our neighbors in their bodily needs."
They respond to the basic needs of humanity as we journey together through this life.

SOCIAL STUDIES FOCUS:

Women who changed history, in the US and around the world.
This week, we will introduce some of the women who have made groundbreaking contributions to the fields of medicine, physics, botany and chemistry  as well as the female scientists who aided NASA’s effort to get to the moon, as well as some female astronauts who have contributed to our understanding of space.

MUSIC CURRICULUM FOR THE WEEK WILL FOCUS ON FEMALE COMPOSERS AROUND THE WORLD.
