This week we will continue learning about different unique rhythms from around the world, with focus on Samba that is based in Brazil. We will continue working on preparations for the Valentine’s Day presentations for younger students, PreK-K and Black History Month presentations later in February featuring grades 1-8.

This week the students will continue with preparations for various music presentations we will feature in February; life of Bach is inspiring students through his message of a life filled with purpose and passion- his music is timeless and his spirit of freedom relatable to all of us.
We will continue exploring the Doumbek drum I recently acquired for students to use at the school- it was a donation but in great shape and we have been having lots of fun playing this drum, also known as the Goblet drum or Darabuka.

Week of January 7th

It has been a cold and snowy weekend! We will warm up this week with some jazz and gospel as we start to explore different musical selections for the Black History Month Celebration which we will have in February. PreK and UPK classes will be preparing for their Valentine’s Day presentations. We will continue learning about music notation and even some basic conducting!

Tomorrow is the Feast of St. Elizabeth Anne Seton, Mass is at 9am. Children who are selected to sing in the choir tomorrow should review the following songs:

LESSONS PLAN- WEEK OF DEC 10

Dear Students and Families,
This week we will continue learning about various composers and their most known works, including  American composer John Williams who wrote music for movies such as Star Wars, Superman, etc. We will be listening to audio examples as well.
Practice for our Lessons and Carols continue- we hope to see you there on Dec 21!

WEEK OF DEC 10

Music curriculum week of Dec 3

This week we will focus on perfecting our music notation skills! Some grades have been able to write down the melody of Jingle Bells in their music notebooks, as well as learn about different types of notes in terms of lenghth and have learned how to count in 4/4 time signature.
Using the recorders this week, some grades will compose their own original melody and play it as an ensemble with the help of music application Garage Band.
We will continue with preparations for the Lessons and Carols event on Dec 21 in the church.
