Week of October 2, 2017
This week we are progressing further with songs using our block flutes/ recorders. We will also advance in music notation, learning places of notes on the staff, using the music notebooks.
The choir is getting ready for Feast of St. Francis Mass this Wednesday, however all classes will be familiar with the songs selections and we are expecting some beautiful singing of praise by all on that day.
Students are also exploring music from musicals and operas, as well as history of music notation through the ages and history of opera and music in general. We are learning fun facts about famous composers from around the world and how they influenced their society of the time they lived in- music is a powerful force!
Have a wonderful week everyone!

Musical adventures
This week your children will be using music manuscript notebooks that are supplied by the school and should stay in their book bags at all times. Some have already received recorders ( block flutes) depending on the grade and are learning how to play them. The recorders should also "live" in their book bags as we use them at least 3 times a week. We are off to a great musical adventure!🎶🎶🎶

Welcome back!
It will be an exciting year at OLQM in many ways! We have new students joining the returning ones and some starting school for the first time.
In addition to our regular music curriculum, this semester we have added more instruments to the music room- three more pianos, larger variety of percussion instruments ( tambourines, hand drums, rhythm sticks, bells, shakers) and a woodwind instrument- the recorder, also known as the block flute. The individual recorders will be assigned to students in grades 3-6, and will be labeled with their names. The students will learn how a woodwind instrument operates, how to clean and make music with them.
Please feel free to stop by the music room and see all we have in store for the new school year!
Sincerely,
Alma Micic
